Blooms on a budget!
Posted on November 16, 2012 at 6:05 AM |
It's very easy to think that by tightening the purse strings we cant get creative displays that pull on the heartstrings! Recently I used end of season hydrangeas from the garden with some ivory Scallions (small spray chrysanthemums), which trust me - lasted AGES!!!. I mixed these with some fruiting ivy and gypsophila and centred everything around an ivory pillar candle. The hydrangeas had started shedding some of the fuller petals, however the partially exposed seed heads added depth and texture to the arrangement. You don not have to get all your flowers and foliage from commercial outlets! If you can, forage around (literally) and you'll be amazed at what you can find. An obliging wedding florist (talk about a hint!) will always be happy to accommodate your chosen (and picked) blooms! On a practical note - using blooms from your own or others; gardens (most people I know I very happy to let loose with secateurs in a good cause!!) will keep costs down! On a purely creative note however - this could be part of a bride's "something borrowed" for her bridal flowers and wedding arrangement, but even if the flowers and foliage are used for a different event, (sympathy, event, christeneing - whatever you choose) - it will add to that very special personal touch!! |
